Terms of Service
Draft version — not yet reviewed. Last edited: [DATE].
These terms govern use of the Revision Ninja platform by schools, teachers, school administrators, and students. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. See also our Privacy Policy, which explains what personal data we collect and why.
1. Who these terms apply to
[PLACEHOLDER] Where a school signs up, these terms apply to the school and to every teacher, administrator, and student it authorises to use the service under that school's account. A school representative agreeing to these terms confirms they are authorised to do so on the school's behalf, including for the purposes of the data processing terms in Section 5.
2. Acceptable use
You (and anyone using an account you are responsible for) agree not to:
- Use the service for anything unlawful, or in a way that could harm, disrupt, or overload it;
- Attempt to access another user's account, another school's data, or restricted admin/teacher functionality;
- Upload content you do not have the rights to, or content that is abusive, harassing, or otherwise inappropriate for a school setting;
- Add a student, class roster, or other individual's personal data to the service without a proper legal basis and, where required, the school's or parent/guardian's authorisation; or
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or resell the service without our prior written consent. [PLACEHOLDER — confirm final wording with a lawyer.]
3. Accounts and responsibilities
Teachers and school administrators who create classes and add student email addresses are responsible for:
- Ensuring the data they add (student names, emails, class assignments) is accurate and that they have the authority to add it;
- Keeping their own sign-in credentials secure and not sharing accounts;
- Removing students from a class/roster promptly when they leave the school or the course, so we can apply data retention rules correctly [PLACEHOLDER — link to a real retention process once defined in the Privacy Policy]; and
- Complying with their own school's policies and applicable law (including UK GDPR) when entering pupil data into the service.
Students are responsible for using the service appropriately and not sharing their account with others. [PLACEHOLDER — add age-of-use / parental consent position once confirmed with a lawyer.]
4. Course content and intellectual property
[PLACEHOLDER] Course materials made available on the platform remain the property of Revision Ninja or the relevant content owner/teacher who authored them, and are licensed to schools/students for educational use only, not for redistribution. Teachers who author and upload their own course content retain ownership of that content but grant us a licence to host and display it as part of the service.
5. Data protection
Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy. Where we process personal data about a school's pupils on that school's behalf, we act as a data processor and the school remains the data controller. [PLACEHOLDER — a separate, signed Data Processing Agreement (DPA) should be put in place with each school before real pupil data is processed; this clause is a placeholder reference only and does not itself constitute a DPA.]
6. Service availability
We aim to keep the service available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. [PLACEHOLDER — confirm final disclaimer wording with a lawyer; some warranties cannot be excluded for consumers under UK law.]
7. Fees and subscriptions
[PLACEHOLDER] Some courses may require payment, processed via our payment provider, Stripe. Pricing, billing terms, and refund policy: [PLACEHOLDER — to be defined before any paid course goes live].
8. Suspension and termination
[PLACEHOLDER] We may suspend or terminate access to the service for any account or school that breaches these terms, in particular the Acceptable Use section above. A school or teacher may stop using the service at any time; on request, we will delete or return school data in line with the Privacy Policy's retention terms.
9. Liability
[PLACEHOLDER — this section requires careful drafting by a lawyer, including how liability is limited, what is excluded, and how this interacts with consumer protection law and any school contract.]
10. Governing law
[PLACEHOLDER] These terms are intended to be governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to confirmation by a lawyer.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. [PLACEHOLDER — define a real process for notifying schools/users of material changes.]
12. Contact us
Questions about these terms: [PLACEHOLDER — real contact email/address].
